What do leaders need to manage organizational culture? They need to understand their own culture.

Why do organizational cultures need to change?  Organizational cultures need to change because change is inevitable and the world is changing every day.

What is the power/influence of the culture of an organization? The power/influence of the organizational culture encompasses articulation of diverse values in the best interest of members in the organization

What is the meaning of organizational culture? Organizational culture means the subtotal of values, beliefs, goals and attitudes contained in the organization’s structure.

Question 2

Define organizational culture and explain why it is important. Organizational culture relates to values, beliefs, goals and attitudes contained in the organization’s structure designed by members of the organization. It is important for compatibility within its function.

Describe the three levels of culture and how to explore each level. The three levels of culture are artifacts, which are observed manifestation of culture, next are values. They are not observed behavior, but implicit. Thirdly are assumptions and beliefs, which are explored through unconscious interactions.

Give examples of the three levels of culture in your organization (work, church, etc.)

At work artifacts pertain to dress codes; furniture applicable to managers and workers, respectively. Values relate to respect for authority and codes of conduct within the organization.Assumptions and beliefs encompass integrity; honesty and the unconscious ability to perform at a very high or low level.

Describe a Macro-, Sub-, and Micro-cultures in which you are a member. My macro cultural membership denotes relationships with the wider society such as the world and its specific social environment; micro relates my family ties with regards to my name values espoused within it. Sub culture pertains to my membership in school club or church group.

Record three (3) thoughts in the chapter that connect with your experience and be prepared to share them. The three thoughts gathered from this chapter connected to my experience are:-

  • Transition is a 3 phase psychological process.
  • Transition is slow starting with new beginning; moving towards neutrality and ending with denial.
  • Unlike change which is fast in transition people gradually accept new situations.
