Corporate Team Building Strategy, Essay Example

When developing a team building strategy for Chase, it is important to incorporate the input of the team. The first step in the team building strategy will be the creation of a mission statement. It will be achieved by having the team members work in pairs or smaller groups, come up with suggestions, and agree on the best. The CEO will provide the focus of the event, which, will determine the values and behaviors that are necessary for achieving the purpose of the team will be important during the initial stage.

Developing and agreeing on the team goals is the next step in the strategy. It is important to determine the outcome that is required from the team. The outcomes must be separated into short and long-term goals. The goals must be SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-framed). SMART goals are clear (Aldag & Kuzuhara 48). In the case of the elected company, the main goal is to enhance customer relationships, and by clarifying this goal, the entire team will work towards its realization without conflicting personal agendas.

The other significant step in the strategy is conducting a knowledge and skills assessment. It is important to determine the skills in the team to assign every member a task that he/she is skillful in. Team members may have different interests such as debating and creating writing that can be useful to the work of the team. This step will be closely followed by agreeing on individual roles within the team. This step entails suing the information from the previous step to determine who takes which role in the team (Aldag & Kuzuhara 103). The team members will complete a Belbin Role Questionnaire to determine the role that best suits each member. Some of the roles that will be assigned to the team members include coordinator, implementer, and a completer.

The next step in the team building strategy will be agreeing on the ground rules and working modalities. The team will discuss and agree on the behaviors and conduct that is required from the members. The other ground rule required from the team members is how to share information and communication within the team. Conflict resolution mechanisms will be part of the ground rules for the team. Since conflicts abound in any group, adopting the appropriate resolution strategies ensures the success of a team (Harkavy & Halliday 94). Some of the rules that will govern the team include banning laptops and mobile phones during meetings and allowing each member to speak without interruption.

Holding the team members accountable to one another will be part of the strategy. The team member will not be answerable to the manager alone, but to one another because if one of them fails, the whole team will fail. It will be important to make sure that each member is aware of the task of other members. Failure to meet deliverables or deadlines will be a team issue to ensure that each member is held accountable for their work (Harkavy & Halliday 116).

Creating time for fun will part of the strategy. Fun activities allow the team members to socialize, celebrate success, and develop meaningful relationships (Aldag & Kuzuhara 84). Team members may be discouraged when they face obstacles, and including fun activities in the strategy will keep the momentum going. Three fun activities will be incorporated in the strategy. These will be going on a hike, having dinner at a posh hotel and volunteering at a children’s home.
