Course Guidelines and Syllabus Response, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 497

Essay

Here, I would like to respond to the syllabus for this course. I will comment on the some of the information as it applies to me.  Some of the things I will focus on will be questions I might have after reading it.  This is one of the more interesting exercises I have had. It is rare that a teacher asks you to comment on the course at the beginning.  As such I will express some of my fears and hopes about what I preview.

Some of the questions follow.  How many pages are the assignments? I am really interested in following through with the assignments, but I am nervous about my ability to complete them. I feel the grading policy is fair, and I hope that I can follow the material well enough to do well in the class.  English is a challenge for me but so is writing in general. I am also mildly concerned about the required reading. Because I am not a fast reader, I am not so sure I can complete all of the readings in a timely manner.  These are some of the fears I have after reading the syllabus and related material.

Still, not all of my impressions of the material are negative.  I am glad that the instructor is available to assist me outside of class, and I feel a little better to know the writing lab is also available.  Another thing I really like is the fact that the assignments are spread out pretty well.  I think that will help a lot in my performance.  I am also confident that although there are some words I may not understand that they will be explained to me well enough that I can handle the concepts.  These are some of the hopes I have concerning some of the material.

My overall feelings about the course material are mixed.  Some of it is common sense – like the plagiarism policy and such. Some seems a bit daunting, like daily assignments and the portfolio requirement.  It seems that having to turn in the portfolio as a PDF seems a bit of busywork.  Also, I am apprehensive about the peer reviews and that the length of the course is a bit short.  Still, I believe in my ability to complete the requirements of the class.  I’m just not so sure about the quality my work.  Hopefully, all that will change as we move through the course material.

This has been an interesting assignment. Here, I have responded to the syllabus for this course to the best of my ability. I have commented on the some of the information as it applies to me.  Some of the things I have focused on have been questions I had after reading it.  It is rare that a teacher asks you to comment on the course at the beginning.  So, it is not usual, but it seems to have been helpful.  I feel a little less nervous about the whole thing.
