Course Introduction: Background, Essay Example

I am Gabriel and I did my BS in Electrical Engineering from Mexican University, Tampico-Madero, Mexico. After that I completed my Masters in Education at Concordia University of Texas, Austin and am now an MBA student at the university. My first job was in supply logistics with Laredo, TX-based SR Forwarding. After that I joined Applied Materials as a buyer planner and then moved to Isolux Ingenieria as a buyer-procurer. I also have IT background and have attended leadership seminars to enhance my leadership skills. My career goal is to ultimately reach leadership positions in the IT-enabled supply chain management.

My academic and work experiences backgrounds have provided me with a strong foundation for this course. I hope this course will help me better understand the role IT and operations management play towards creating sustainable core competencies. I expect to be introduced to both leadership theories and analytical tools that are most relevant to our times and how they have been successfully applied by organizations in the real world. I also hope to learn how operations management has evolved over the last few decades and the potential factors including globalization that have driven these changes.

I believe I may not be the only one with extensive work experience in this course and am excited at the opportunity to learn about the experiences and insights of my course mates. I also hope the class will have an opportunity to interact with business leaders and benefit from their experiences. Similarly, this course will also hopefully serve as a strong reference for job opportunities after graduation.
