Course Reflections: Personal Experience, Essay Example

Diversity is a significant part of life, both personally and professionally.  Acknowledging diversity as a fundamental principle of understanding life is key to finding success in personal endeavors.  There are no two people who are composed the same, their personal differences aid in their actions, thought process, and many other functions.  Taking the time to understand and embrace the diversity in which society is composed of is essential in understanding life in general.  According to an article published in Stanford News they state the importance of diversity as “Minds are created and maintained by individuals’ participation in various social worlds – worlds “based on our country of origin, region of the country, ethnicity, religion, gender, profession.” (Markus, 1996)

Ethics is an equally important concept to understand the complexity associated in life.  Not all ethical decisions are clearly evident.   They are based on personal digression which does not always align with ethics.  Ethical conduct in decision making and in personal actions must be prevalent in ones professional and personal life.  Laws and guidelines do not always set clear definitions for right and wrong, and that is where personal ethics must take over.  Doing what is right regardless of the circumstances associated with it.  There has to be moral guidelines and principles that govern an individual’s actions and personal behavior.

There is also a social responsibility in decision making and actions as well.  This is the balance between business and personal wellbeing.  What one does has to benefit the business, but it has to benefit society as a whole.  There is no secret that in many business atmospheres, the priority is the bottom line not the means of which the bottom line is obtained.   This is where social responsibility and actions comes into play.  Balancing what is required for economic success as well as what benefits society as well.  This coincides with ethics in that personal behavior must be based on moral guidelines of right and wrong not just standards that are set as minimum expectations.
