Research Paper

In all successful organizations, effective communication is a mandatory requirement for smooth running. This is more especially in virtual organizations since they have a propensity towards being timeless, as well as borderless organizations. The fabric that holds these organizations and the heartbeat that sets rhythm for their operations is communication. The current economic situations as well as the increased economic pressures have demanded for a change of approach in management styles.  The only way to ensure high performance and sustain it is through a change in the management style and this can be achieved through the bosses turning to servants or what is called is called servant leadership (Greenleaf R, & Spears L, 2002.)

The virtual organization is therefore described as one consisting of employees who are physically separated and kept apart from one another which results into what has been described as a “company without walls” (Galbraith 1995). To ensure that this is achieved the first communication attribute that should be cultivated is the 360 degrees feedback system. This is a system that seeks to have communication as a all round process that uses the wheel pattern of communication as this is deemed the fastest model of communication (BPP 2009). In this way the leaders not only act as leaders but also as servants in the wheel in the dissemination of information hence promoting the servant leadership model of management.

The second attribute that should be used in this servant leadership model is the development of standardised electronic communication templates to be used in the organization. Since the communication is all round without barriers and boundaries, it is important to standardise the communication methods to ensure that as the information flows fast, it is vital to that it is made common for ease of understanding. In this way, it is important to ensure that the servant leaders as well as the populace that is being led are at a common threshold of communication for ease of communication.
