If I were able to enter any career of my choice, I would choose to be a movie actor. While famous actors make this job look glamourous and easy, these individuals must put a lot of effort into developing the creative process to help them meet the requirements of the roles they wish to play. In these situations, actors must pretend to be people who they are not. One popular method of adopting new personalities is called method acting, in which actors attempt to recreate the lives of the individuals they are attempting to portray. In some cases, this would include living as a homeless individual to personify a homeless character, taking a tour of Italy to portray an Italian mobster, and more. In a recent interview, Johnny Depp reported that he practiced his lines while talking to Barbie dolls in order to better mimic a real life situation (Erbland, 2015). Therefore, it is important for movie actors to be creative to develop their movie persona in addition to how they rehearse their lines.

It is also important to consider that movie actors must be creative as they act as well. Whether this would mean appropriately responding to emotional situations, speaking lines with the correct tone and volume, or improvising at the right point in time, the actor is responsible for bringing the character to life. Even though the actor is often provided a defined script to implement, these individuals are given the ability to fully embody their new persona in a manner that positively contributes to the outcome of the film. Therefore, within the context of the script, actors are able to add nuance and flair to their words and actions in order to make the film truly enjoyable. This is all a part of the creative process. Whether the actor intends to implement certain aspects of the character from the beginning or does so spontaneously in the moment, the creative process is being followed to contribute to the development of a new character or idea.

Some actors focus on the enunciation of words or lack thereof to create their character. A perfect example of this is Marlon Brando’s role as “The Godfather”. If it weren’t for his characteristic tone and phrasing, his character would not have been as memorable. Many individuals would criticize this lack of enunciation (McKinstry, 2012). However, Brando decided to incorporate this voice as a part of his character during the creative process in order to perfect his image of an Italian mobster. Even though it wasn’t always easy for the audience to hear each and every one of his words, this artistic licence allowed Vito Corleone to become one of the best known characters of all time. On the other hand, it is perfectly acceptable for a character to pronounce all words concisely to convey clear messages to the audience. However, this decision is at the liberty of the actor or actress.

Overall, it is important to consider that actors use the creative process when developing their character and in implementing their character’s persona. This is an important component of this job because it helps further develop a character in a manner that is enjoyable by the audience. The best actors take a long time considering what they want to do with the roles they are given and because of this process, the films they are in are very entertaining as a result.
