Credibility of Sources, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 354

Essay

When deciding upon the suitability of resources for my paper, my primary goal was to find papers that were available in peer-reviewed journals. These articles are typically well researched and unbiased because for them to be published in this form of media, other professionals in the field had to review it, recommend edits, and then approve it for publication (ASU Library, n.d.). However, I was unable to find many peer-reviewed danced related to my topic idea. While there are many academic resources available related to dance, there are very few that make the connection between dance and sport. Since I am seemingly one of the few individuals who wish to conduct an academic report on this topic, it will be necessary for me to base my paper primarily on this piece while drawing in information from other sources as well. As a consequence, my paper will also incorporate opinions from blogs and online periodicals, but it will thoroughly assess the rationale behind these opinions in terms of the academic article.

One credible academic source that was utilized is: Ingram I. (1978). Dance and Sport. International Review for the Sociology of Sport, 13(1): 85-97. This is credible because it has been published in a peer-review journal and the author is a sociology expert. On the other hand, a less reliable source is: Rotter M. (2014). Dance team: A sport that doesn’t get the respect it deserves. Star Tribune. Retrieved from ttp://www.startribune.com/. While this source is from an online periodical, it is difficult to determine the validity of sources posted online because it is free and easy to do so. Furthermore, it is difficult to understand the author’s qualifications through this medium. It is therefore important to note these potential biases in writing to ensure that the sources do not make the research paper untrustworthy.
