Crucial conversations entails discussions whereby opinions differ, the stakes are high, and feelings run strong. The concept AAMP stands for Ask, Mirror, Paraphrase, and Prime, which are crucial skills towards solving a particular conflict. Ask, mirror, paraphrase and prime are four important power listening skills. Ask entails asking aloud a question that will inspire somebody to say exactly what is happening. The act of asking will let conversation roll. Mirror involves confirming the feelings of the parties in conflict. This implies describing the way the other person acts or looks. For instance, describing the apparent anger in a person and explaining what it suggests. Paraphrase means restating what have been observed using own words in order to keep the conversation alive. Prime means taking the best guess at which the other individual may be thinking. Asking and priming are important tools that can assist one get part of the other person’s story out into the open. Thus, when one gets a clue concerning what the individual is feeling; it will be easy to establish extra safety through paraphrasing what one has hard. It is important to be cautious not to merely repeat back what has been said. Rather, it will be important to put the message in your own words-normally in an abbreviated form (Patterson et al, 2012).

AAMP is much related to STATE, which entails how to speak persuasively not abrasively. STATE stands for Share, Tell, Ask, Talk, and Encourage.  There is the need to share the story by starting with the facts. The facts will lay the ground for all fragile conversations. Next, tell the story by combining facts and conclusion that attract face-to-face discussion. There is the need to ask for others’ paths by inspiring others to share both their stories, as well as facts. In addition, talking tentatively is important to state the story. Finally encourage testing by making it safe for others to express diverging opinions (Abrams, 2009).
