Cultural perspectives refer to a set of attitudes, ideas, principles, and significances abhorred by a certain cultural group. Evidently, perspectives keep changing from one society to another. Cultural Perspectives serves numerous roles both in school and at society level. To new students in Samford it is obvious that cultural perspectives will ensure they maintain a harmonious environment, which encourages academic cooperation, needed for individual academic success. Obviously, universal appearance and good thoughts for a group is by far significant, while compared with the needs of an individual. As seen, Cultural perspectives help to enhance the concept of togetherness in a given culture, and people learn to avoid individuality.
Learners in Stamford will stand a chance of learning so many things, such as the cohesiveness needed for people to work in a harmonious way towards achieving a given goal. They will learn that, in order to ensure no one is hurt or egos offended, decisions need to be discussed before they are passed. For instance, in view of the Asian cultures, the most important principle embraced by all is working as a group as opposed to doing things as individuals. Members need to hold one on one dialogue, as they exchange ideas, solicit feedback, and reach at a unanimous decision. Once a unanimous decision has been found by the members, they can then say without fear of contradiction that a rubber-stamp decision was made. The new students will learn that, a meeting is a place for reaching at agreements, and not an avenue for arguments and disagreements. Additionally, learning about cultural perspectives will assist the new students to know that, much as arriving at a solution and a consensus is vital, it should not be attained through disrupting peace. To any society, getting support of a certain decision goes a long way in ensuring everyone is a true supporter, as opposed to just paying lip services to the decision made.
As new students, they should approach the course with an open mind, and expect to learn some new concepts, which will assist them to look at cultures from various communities in a different perspective. The course will provide them with an insight on the way culture is divided into numerous institutional arrangements namely economic, political, and social realms. The new students should be ready to learn the way in which cultural perspectives leads to moral development, and the way in which the society classify human beings based on the skills, beliefs and attitudes. In their approach, the students should be ready to meet alternative global views on cultures, and they will realize that, most people tend to misunderstand certain cultures. For instance, the new students will be shocked to learn that no evidence links Puerto Rican, black Americans, and Mexican American children with inability to succeed in education. The students should approach the course prepared to do research in a bid to prove some disturbing facts that the society is still mono-cultural, despite assertions that it is poly-cultural.
In conclusion, cultural perspectives are helpful in ensuring that people respect each culture, besides helping to discredit some negative perceptions held against some cultures. The new learners should approach the course in an open mind, because there is a lot that awaits them and they will learn some shocking revelations. As seen, cultural perspectives help to enhance the concept of togetherness in a given culture, and people learn to avoid individuality.
