Pages: 1

Words: 327

Essay

Cultural relativism has the implication of the view of every particular to be in a position of being understood in considerations of the values as well as the ideas relevant to the particular culture. This does not relate to its judgment with regard to the standards of a different culture. There exists specific human rights whose acceptance is universal in the context of all cultures This incorporates the basic rights as well as freedoms that are at the disposal of human beings. The best examples in this category would be civil as well as political rights. This includes the rights of a person with respect to life as well as liberty, the freedom responsible for free expression, equality in the face of the law, the social;, economic as well as cultural rights. This covers the range of the rights of participation in the culture, he right of accessing food, the right of a position for work as well as the right to acquire education. The right of children, clean air, and knowledge are also universally accepted across the majority of the cultures (Herskovits & Frances, 1973).

There is a tendency of promotion of protection, interpretation as well as application of the human rights that is in a position of being given a different interpretation in the context of diverse cultures, ethnic as well as religious traditions. This may have the implication of the cultural relativity of the human rights rather than being universal. There is a great threat of the relativism in the context of the effectiveness of the international law in addition to the international human rights system. If there is a possibility of the cultural tradition in governing of the state compliance in the context of the international standards accompanied by a widespread disregard, the abuse as well as the violation of the human rights would require legitimacy (Herskovits & Frances, 1973).
