Promoting health topics and raising health care awareness is a significant asset for professionals in the health care industry, and several health care providers. Promoting health situations will persuade some individuals to consider health care services. Also, promoting health care situations will grant medical attention to individuals by providing them with beneficial and significant information for the purpose discussed. Health care pamphlets and/or brochures “encourage patients to ask their caregivers specific questions about pain medication, including doses and times that medication should be taken, side effects, how long the medication will take to work, and what to do if the medication does not work (Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations 2009). Providing individuals with health care knowledge may urge individuals to seek information about preventing, maintaining and/or surviving with the disease or illness.
Although promoting health care is significant and provides beneficial information for individuals, the process of developing health care promotions require time, a sufficient amount of effort and innovative and creative ideas. The main objective of a health care promotion is to attract audience and provide beneficial information on the health care topic being discussed. Health care promotion pamphlets can be spread throughout several health care locations, such as doctor’s office, hospitals, etc. On the other hand, health care promotion pamphlets can be passed from one individual to another, for example a health care advocate can pass the health care promotion pamphlets to individuals walking through a particular neighborhood and/or location. Both methods help promote health care diseases or illnesses because it raises awareness to other individuals. The circulation of the health care pamphlets is a significant factor to inform individuals of the particular health care disease or illness being discussed. The utilization of these health care pamphlets allows various medical professionals and health care providers to perform direct communication between themselves and their patients and/or other individuals.
Nevertheless, the health care promotion pamphlet must attract the attention of the readers and impact the audience through various promotional strategies and methods. The overall design should coincide with every aspect of the pamphlet; therefore the design should assist in enforcing the message that is being conveyed. The pamphlet “Childhood Obesity: A Preventable Epidemic,” displays a successful design that is simple and straightforward. However, the design still expresses creativity and in a unique form. The design conveys a monochromatic color scheme, which is a sufficient way of displaying a message for the public. A monochromatic color scheme is one color used in lighter and darker shades. Monochromatic color scheme helps viewers to focus of the information that is being displayed rather than the design portion. When health care pamphlets are displayed with numerous colors, the audience may neglect the significant information that is being discussed because the design is overpowering. “The front page of the brochure should catch the attention of the reader through a combination of graphics and text placed into headers…To hold the attention of the reader, the brochure should contain a brief narrative about the mission or goals (Castelli and Fiorentino 2008).”
However, the actual structure is a significant factor within health care pamphlets as well. In the pamphlet “Childhood Obesity: A Preventable Epidemic,” the structure is displayed in a method of hierarchy. The pamphlet should provide the viewer with relevant information, yet the information must be structured in a way that is easy to read for the audience. The “Childhood Obesity: A Preventable Epidemic,” pamphlet began by informing the audience of the actual health care topic, which is the high percentage of obesity within children and simple methods to prevent it. The pamphlet began by discussing the actual cause and providing the readers with statistics on the issue. This information will make the viewers quickly decide if they want to continue reading the pamphlet or if they aren’t interested. Therefore, it is important to structure the content within the pamphlet in a way that the readers will understand quickly. In “Childhood Obesity: A Preventable Epidemic,” pamphlet, the readers understand what they are reading and begin to learn how to prevent obesity. The pamphlet is organized in a way that displays most relevant information first, and other information will follow. The pamphlet could demonstrate confusion for the audience because the pamphlet is targeted towards parents, schools and teachers. Therefore, it is difficult to understand which information is relevant to the individual reading the pamphlet.
Nevertheless, the content that is displayed is also significant to the pamphlet. If the writers of “Childhood Obesity: A Preventable Epidemic,” decided who the informational pamphlet should be targeted towards, the irrelevant information wouldn’t have been displayed. In essence, the pamphlet should have been targeted for a specific target market. “Users [found that] the content should be well organized, with information easily accessible and well categorized (Rees 2010)”. Although, the target market seems to be suitable for adult figures, the pamphlet displays information about preventing information about policies within school, and how the school can prevent unhealthy eating habits. Though, this is important information for school officials, the content doesn’t coincide with other information being displayed.
In essence, health care pamphlets and/or brochures provide the audience with information they may have overlooked or questions they should be asking their medical professionals and health care providers. The overall design, structure and content of the pamphlet impacts the significance of the pamphlet to the readers. Therefore, creating pamphlets that specialize in a specific target market will help to maintain a unique and innovative pamphlet that readers will enjoy.
