Research Paper

A data store refers to the storehouse of sets of data objects that are modeled to database schema by means of classes. The implication of data store is the general concept incorporating repositories such as databases and the simpler types of store that include flat files among others. A data store may represent data in a single schema or several schemas (Paulraj, 2010).

Data warehouses

Data warehouses implies to central physical or logical storehouse for the vital components of data that are collected in the business system, the emphasis advocated in data warehousing involves capturing data from different sources that is applicable in analysis as well as access. Data warehousing never originate from the end users perspective that may in need of accessing specialized and local databases (Paulraj, 2010). Data warehouses can capture extremely detailed data from several subject areas. Data warehouses works by integration of entire data sources. A data warehouse does not require application of dimensional model but it is able to feed the dimensional models.

Data mart

A data mart involves an access layer to an environment of data warehouse applicable in delivering data to the end user. The data mart therefore entails a data warehouse subset with an orientation to a particular line of business or team. Data marts therefore represent minute slices of data warehouse and the information that they contain relates to single departments. Data marts thus cater for a single subject area such as sales or finance in the organization (Inmon, 2007). The data held in data marts is usually summarized although full details may also be accommodated as well. The focus of a data mart involves integration of information from a distinct subject area.
