Death penalty is one of the capital punishment that is enshrined in the judicial punishments methods for crimes that are punishable by death. In the United States chapter 10 of the constitution elaborates on the issue of death penalty and provides for the circumstances that satisfy the legality of the act. The major fact that underpins the practice is to combat crimes that contribute the death of innocent citizens in the society. Take the case scenario of Boston bombing where many innocent people lost their lives and many others got injured, it is in the light of this act death penalty can serve as a good punishment method to punish the offender. The report from the corridors of justice indicates that the suspects in the Boston bombing case could face death penalty. Death penalty should be not be viewed as a revenge motive by the law to ensure that whosever kills but must be killed; however, it should be viewed from the perspective of correcting an evil action in the society. The penalty is also used in a fair manner and does not discriminate on any ground since all people are equal before the law. The penalty does not deter the law but promotes the spirit and the letter of the law (Robert Aberle, 2012, p 242).
In most states across the world, the judicial systems provide for death penalty as a capital form of punishment to ensure that members of the safety do not kill or engage in the criminal acts that may lead to death of innocent civilians. It is a corrective measure to ensure that the spirit and letter of the law is respected. However on issue of respect for human life and every one has the right to live, death penalty is therefore an initiative to promote the respect for human life. In the light of this fact it is therefore important to continue practicing death penalty to ensure every citizen’s life is respected by everybody in the society. The criminals that receive the penalty deserve it as measure to eliminate unacceptable practices in the society.
More than 30 states in the United States have enforced the law in both military and civilian legal settings of the government. The matter should be left to the judicial system to determine the modalities for exercising the penalty and how to determine the crimes that can be punished through the method. The states in America should continue the practice to reduce instances of murder and other crimes that can lead to death of people in the society.
In the contemporary society where crimes have become so complex and have evolved to entail practices that lead to massive death of people such as terrorism it is important to enact death penalties to end such practices as terrorism and serial killing. Abolishing death penalty in the legal punishment system likes providing a suitable ground for the growth of terrorist activities and serial killing. Death penalty also serves as good example for others in the society and thus enables them to refrain from activities of murder. A state that enforces death ensures peace and discipline among its citizens and most importantly promotes respect for human rights as stated in the constitution of the land. The question as to whether a murder suspect can punished through death penalty should be determined by the judicial system that should establish the principles for determining whether the suspect killed to ensure self defense or whether it was man slaughter or intentional killing (Robert Aberle, 2012, p 242).
