Deer Park versus Evian H2O
I chose a friend, female who drinks both of the following H2O: Deer Park and Evian and compared the two. The protocol for the experiment was 5 bottles of each. She drank them over a 24 hour period. We looked at taste, clarity and bottle differentiation since that deals with marketing of the product. Temperature change was not documented other than to say she drank the water at ambient temperature. None of the bottles were refrigerated to secure the original ingredients in the water. There was a difference noted in the original taste of the Evian but not the Deer Park water. After the first few sips of the Deer Park the taste of chlorine additive went away. This shows the Deer Park is put through a much more stringent filtering process and as well is well water and not just purified. I found this out when I researched the way they filter process the water by calling Deer Park and Evian both, respectively. The trials were independent of each other and recorded separately. First the Deer Park was introduced then 15 minutes were waited then the Evian were presented for taste tests, then she drank the entire bottles for the next 24 hours recording the clarity, taste and bottle differentiation. The conclusion was that the Evian presented itself better with bottle differentiation; clarity was the same in the two waters tested but taste was better in the initial test and 24 hour test for the Deer Park water. Hence, I conclude the people that buy the water for the clarity and taste will buy Deer Park but those that just like the pretty bottle and brand name of Evian H2O will not reap the benefits of a good and healthy bottle of well water. Well water is purer than filtered water because it is naturally purified and not with chemicals such as chlorine and black chalk. (Carbon based) adding taste to the water. A good bottle of water will have an independent taste clean and free.
Problem and Hypothesis
It is postured that well water will do better on the clarity and taste tests. The prettier bottle of water usually sells first though.
Procedure
- Choose a friend to taste the waters of Deer Park and Evian.
- Make an initial taste test with a 15 minute interval between the taste tests so that the tongue can be clear of the other water tasted and the mind can clear from the initial taste of the first random test.
- The friend will not know which water she is tasting on the initial test but will have to record results for each of the five bottles drank over a 24 hour period.
- I looked for clarity and bottle presentation for marketing purposes.
- Results were logged in a single tablet and recorded.
- Charts were made to show the results.
- Conclusion will be based on both the initial test and the 24 hour test.
Results
The variables were diminished by choosing randomly for taste test, allowing an initial and 24 hour taste test and using only one test subject. The following are the results:
Initial and 24 hour tests were rated on a scale of one to ten for all three tests with 1 being the lowest to 10 being the highest ranking.
As you can see the Evian H2O averaged approximately 5.5 and the Deer Park averaged approximately 9 on the initial taste test.
On the clarity they both registered clear.
On the bottle impression test Evian won hands down.
The following chart will be the 24 hour test where the friend drank 5 bottles of water of each water, respectively.
As you can see the Evian scored approximately 6.5-7.0 on the Taste Test and the Deer Park scored approximately 9.5 on the 24 hour 5 bottle Taste Test. This test is more reliable because more bottles were used and a longer interval of 24 hours of tasting was used.
Clarity scored good on both types of water and Evian won on the appearance of the bottle.
Conclusion
It appears after the initial and 24 hour tests that Evian was the low scorer and Deer Park won the taste test by a large margin. The clarity was clear in both showing they both are very clear. The bottle presentation winner was Evian showing Deer Park needs to spruce up their marketing of the bottle to win over the initial buying of the Evian water. This can increase their sales through the roof because “presentation is everything”.
