According to dictionary.com, malaria is defined as “an infectious disease characterized by recurring attacks of chills and fever, caused by the bite of an anopheles mosquito infected with any of four protozoans of the genus Plasmodium” (dictionary.com). In summary, it is a parasite infection caused by a mosquito bite that leads to fever and chills. After a person is infected with the malaria parasite, it is able to travel to the lungs, heart, kidneys, and brain, which causes problems with these organs (WHO). Since there are many mosquitos in parts of the world where its warm, Malaria is primarily a problem for people living in these areas. Some examples of locations in which malaria is common includes Brazil and African countries that are located South of the Sahara desert (CDC). In conclusion, malaria can be prevented by mosquitos and treated by taking medicine for the fever and chills it causes.
