Social stereotyping is a common trend in modern media-developments and production. It could be noted that somehow, the emergence of such culture has come from the basis of how the world actually faces the different challenges of living and thriving within a consistent system of adjustments, a definite turn by which people are becoming more accustomed to seeing how imbalanced the world has become and how much it is able to make an atonement to the said adjustments through justifying even the most lucid aspects of living that media itself represents as part of general human culture. Notably, it could be understood that somehow, the way media portrays development is based on how improvements of human perception on matters directly affecting them is basically given attention to.
This is the primary reason why media programs are being transformed through time to be able to help the audience they serve relate to issues and situations they present, thus making a definite insistence on how the world begin to see issues and problems that consistently affects their living condition as well as that of their personal beliefs. Practically, the cinema industry has taken such an option seriously and has used it insistently especially for the sake of determining the interest and the essence of importance that cinema has in shaping the culture of the world and the people living in it. Believably, people have become more extensive in seeing the relative aspect of how cinema tries to mirror real living and everything else that comes along with it. For this particular discussion, a focus on the American cinema shall be pursued, especially on how Asians and their culture are portrayed within such productions.
For instance, in the television series program entitled House often emerges from particular medical issues that are developed to be presented as a narrative form. Nevertheless, besides using the internet and other video accessing programs, there exists young Asian woman who became part of the team of the infamous Doctor Gregory House. The young Asian woman named Park is noticeably smaller than her counterparts in the program. Nevertheless, it could be analyzed that being a young Asian, Park is shown to have higher chances of being involved in race-defined oppressions at work. She is seen to have a good and tight connection with the right people nevertheless, it could not be denied that Asian women like Park did have some points of flaw. Noticeably, although this is the case, she is also given a definite sense of respect coming from her colleagues and likely the audience as well.
Nevertheless, it cannot be denied that there are some certain plots in the program that are directly intended to insist on the idea that presents social discrimination and inequality among the workers portrayed to be coming from different areas of the world. Even though the diversity is evident and is supposedly accepted fully by the crew, it is most often than not that the Asian character gains more of the degrading comments that are designed to enrich the topic and/or the script especially in the connection it has in relation to the determination of the real-aspect of the program’s distinction of balance in race and gender issues. Notably, the desire to show what is real and put an intriguing concept of insisting such issue on the program makes such a definite impact on how the issue of social diversity is mirrored in the show.
According to the write-up entitled Asian culture and Asian American identities in the television and film industries of the United States, the trend of presenting the Asian culture in such a showcased approach has long been a trend in US media. Why the Asians? Particularly, people around the globe see Asians to be pushovers and weak ones. Notably, it could be observed that with such notion of stereotyped characteristic, it is understood that Asian characters in most programming plots in the US media are also expected to take on the challenge of remaining strongly rooted to their traditions even amidst definite attacks to their culture and their racial identity.
On the other hand, Gretchen Bakke’s Dead While Men article discusses more on what else can be done, what can be assumed and how the establishment of how the racial minors become the superiors and the American natives become the strangers in their own land; being the victims of the many immoral and illegal works of the Asian immigrants, are seen to be the least in the community. The turn of events have clearly been defined in this article to be the turning point of the situation especially when it comes to seeing the power that every immigrant has apart from his local counterpart among the natural residents in the country. This is what makes the presentation of Asians different from that of the other races occupying a particular community in the United States. Noted as highly cultural and traditional, Asians are expected to become more convincing ad determinably open towards embracing a new community and mandating such community into turning into the culture that they have embraced fully.
The readings and researches used in this discussion strongly identify well with the fact that making a definite form of insistence on how social discrimination and social power is seen through the US media presents a challenging fact that may question how the US government handles its responsibility in establishing balance and direction in the ways by which it caters to the needs of the people living in it and the manner by which it strongly identifies well with what is assumed as social balance. The inability of the government to show such control on the situation has caused for the emergence of such culturally-based operations to thrive alongside the point of social decay as presented through modern American media.
