Research Paper

Doctor of Nursing Science is a degree that prepares nurse scholars and scientists, emphasizing the need for competence. The course focuses on research methodology and scientific content. The American Association of Colleges explains some that this nursing degree should contain some critical concepts to ensure that it prepares nurses who can be effective changing healthcare need (National Association of School Nurses, 2010). The role of registered nurses relates to creation of significant impacts to the general public by means of advocacy which is a vantage point that is associated with a significant degree of uniqueness. The acquired clinical experience is a good source of real-life experience that illustrates the requirements of the patients as well as the outcomes of the public policy with regard to the mortality as well as morbidity of the patient. The nurses are anticipated to desist from underestimating their potentials for in influencing access of quality care in a way that is effective as well as efficient (AACN, 2006). They have a special position that can facilitate for sharing their experience on quality services of health care with the members of the society.

DNS Essential enables nurse scholars to obtain important concepts that inform their professional nursing practice to realize provision of effective care services. Essential III explain the need for an evidence-based practice in promoting the health of the population. I now believe in my ability to provide effective services to patients because I will be considering a rich source of evidence before deciding on the best treatment option. I will be able to analyze health policies proposals and related issues to ensure that they can enhance the health and wellbeing of the patients. The second Essential of the DNP explains the need for effective leadership in healthcare organizations to ensure delivery of quality healthcare services. By learning nursing course, I have obtained important leadership concepts that are necessary for a nurse, and I will apply them during my professional practice.

The access and cost of quality outcomes in health care is an important political agenda that needs the intervention of registered nurses as they execute their advocacy role within the society. This is one of the most important policy analyses that affect the advanced practice nursing (AACN, 2006).  The nurses must therefore play a proactive role in health policy proposals, health policies as well as other related issues from the perspective of consumers, nursing, other health professions, and other stakeholders in policy and public forums. The nurses must also be in a position of demonstrate leadership in the development as well as  implementation of institutional, local, state, federal along with international health policy (Porter-O’Grady  & Malloch, 2011).

In execution of their mandate as advocacy, the nurses must also be in a position of influence the relevant policy makers through active participation on committees, boards, or task forces at the institutional, local, state, regional, national, and/or international levels to improve healthcare delivery and outcomes. They must also play the role of educators to the society which also engrosses policy making in all the levels, regarding nursing, health policy, and patient care outcomes (AACN, 2006). The nurses are also obligated to advocate for the nursing profession within the policy as well as within the healthcare communities. It is also an important role of the registered nurses to develop, evaluate as well as offer constructive leadership for healthcare policy that shapes healthcare financing, regulation as well as delivery. The registered nurses must also be in a position for advocating for the social justice within the society, equity as well as ethical policies within all healthcare arenas.

In conclusion, DNP Essentials are crucial competencies that nurses should acquire to enhance their effectiveness in the challenging healthcare industry. Patients and their relatives expect better healthcare services from the healthcare organization hence showings the need for health professionals to obtain requisite knowledge and skills to enhance their competence. The course has enabled to obtain important concepts that will help me during my professional nursing practice
