Essay

How much emphasis is placed on the needs of the First Responder?

From the website information, adequate emphasisis placed on the first responder’s need. For example, the program developed a First Responder Capstone IPT, component where it is one of 13 functional units. It is believed that each unit is equally represented as being an important section of the project. The expectation is that First responders interact on a regular basis with the public. Their major role is public safety/ security. As such, the public ought to see them providing such services and hold them accountable. At the safe time they must earn public trust also (Home land security, 2009).

Do these documents address the high-tech needs for food, water, or agriculture?

No, they do not. They merely out line measures first responders ought to take in providing public

Is the DARPA model the right solution for DHS?

Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has the mandate of designing modern technologies to be utilized in warfare by military. While their focus is on military the overall goal is public safety and first responders stand at a crucial junction in this endeavor. However, to say that their model is right for DHS might be too early a time to make a comment. So far there have been no published evaluations to determine whether goals have been achieved or aborted (Home Land Security, 2010).

Home land security  alsohas a tremendous responsibility for public safety. First responders are posted in the front line of any disaster or attack. With twelve complimentary units after the establishment of First Responder Capstone IPT, perhaps, there are elements within the DARPA that could also complement DHS execution and become a solution. Importantly, first responders.

are considered owners and operators of the country’s critical services and infrastructures. They are alert to potential disasters and vigilant against risks.DARPA’s ultimate goal is to prevent technological surprise. Immediately, a conflict of interest arises between the two models, one being to promote safety through technology and the other preventing technological surprises(Gelman & Wolf, 2009).

Solutions to protect our nation perspective based on DHS website information dissemination attempts

These websites offer solutions from my point of view that will benefit persons who are computer literate. Younger people in the society can browse websites to access information regarding their safety. Even some middle aged people do not interact with computers and any information technological devices. DHS will have to devise another mode of communication to accommodate this segment of the society. The websites are very informative offering relevant information to persons who have an internet access and function on a computer.

Therefore, while websites teach or inform the public about programs, a serious limitation lies in the public accessibility to these devices or even understanding how technology could help them become safer in the twenty-first century. Consequently, development of relevant solutions to protect our nation are limited to this criterion(Link & Henrich, 2003).

What would be your specific need?

My specific need will be updating training to enhance first responder communication with the public.

First responders are very important professionals in the homeland securityframe work unique purpose is to inform the public regarding ne technological developments occurring within the department of homeland security. However it would appear that with limited computer literacy, 50% of the public would not access the information they should have for their safety. Therefore equipping them with the tools adequate to address the need for more technological literacy. This limitation pertains to public safety. If first responders do not have the tools to disseminate complex, technological information to the public their role has be thwarted

Measures to improve the security and safety of the food, water, and agriculture critical infrastructures

My top research priority would beto investigate further how first respondents could play a more active role in public awareness towards promoting environmental safety. It would include measures to help the public understand DHS movement towards technological applications in enhancing safety. My thesis statement could read,’ developing simple technological safety awareness tools for first responders could help immensely in forwarding public safety awareness.’ In concluding, first responders have a sacred civil responsibility to the public.  Therefore, they must be equipped with the appropriate tools to execute their tasks efficiently within their professional practice.
