Depression and Poverty Among African American Women, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 331

Essay

The barriers that may hinder the implementation of a type 2 diabetes intervention program for African American women include financial issues and staffing issues. For this program to be successful, it is essential to hire qualified staff to both educate and provide treatment to women at risk. Furthermore, the program must acquire finances from the relevant stakeholders to reimburse workers and to cover material costs. An effective way to begin this campaign is by conducting a demographic study to identify the geographic areas in which there are large concentrations of African American women with low socioeconomic status, as this population is at increased risk for obesity related disease (de Groot et al., 2003). This research should be followed up by approaching medical research professionals for funding.

To reduce the financial difficulty is associated with beginning this type of project, it is essential to determine publicly and privately funded grants for which it would be eligible. Furthermore, it would be beneficial to conduct professionals in the biotechnology for donations, provided that the public health campaign has been registered as non-for-profit. In addition to establishing contacts in the field, it would be advantageous to generate advertisements for the program to attract donors, potential staff members, and women that fit within the eligibility criteria that are interested in participating in the intervention.

For example, in urban settings, the largest audience would be reached by advertising the program within the public transportation system. Since thousands of people will see the advertisement daily, this strategy can reach a large percentage of the target demographic (CBS Outdoor, n.d.). Providing the contact information for the organization on such an advertisement is a useful way for people to learn more about the program, donate to the cause, or allow them to volunteer their time.
