Desire to Become a Nurse Practitioner, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 307

Essay

I have been a nursing practitioner within a maternity unit for the past two years. Further, I have been Labor and Delivery registered nurse for in excess of nine years.  I now have the ambition to advance my career by functioning at a more advanced level of nursing and become a Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner.  I see this as enhancing the diversity of my profession as a qualified nurse whilst equally opening the door to wards more specialist and advanced aspects of nursing practice.

My educational background includes holding a Bachelor of Science (BSN) nursing degree and a Master of Science (MSN) in nursing with specialization in Education.  This together with my existing nursing practical experience has provided both a theoretical and practical balance to my nursing education and skill sets.  I now wish to return to more bedside nursing whilst functioning at the level of an Advanced Practice Nurse, hence a nurse practitioner.

I feel that I am at an important junction in my career and as such need to make the right decision in order to progress in the nursing profession.  My existing qualifications and experience as a nurse over a nine year period have provided me with a solid foundation in order to take on more advanced aspects as a nursing practitioner.  As such I am ready to take on the next important challenge in my nursing development.

I am particularly interested in your Nurses Practitioner program because I believe that it meets my objectives as outlined above.  In return you will find that I am an experienced and very dedicated nursing professional and will be a valuable contribution to the nursing team within your program.  I can provide excellent testimonials and work references on my career to date and I would welcome the opportunity to clarify my suitability on any specific needs of the program.
