The main objective of the program is inclined towards alleviating one of the most serious leading health problems in the African American population living in the urban section. The reason behind the selection of the particular subject was brought by intensive research that states the idea that African American individuals are more susceptible to the health issue of diabetes compared to their dominant social counterpart and that their living condition in the urban scenario significantly worsen this problem. As such, this social intervention measure was developed.
In this particular program, the organizers main objective is to encourage awareness to the targeted population about the negative impact of diabetes and develop practical and effective measures towards alleviating the said health problem. In achieving this interest, particular objectives are lined guiding the development of the methodology and the operation process of the program. The objective will involved facilitating healthy lifestyle to the participants involving regular exercise workout, healthy diet concern, and instilling such measures as permanent pattern to their lifestyle (Hall, 2009). These objectives will be evaluated through analyzing significant physical results in the involved targeted population manifested through improvements in their BMI index, waste line measurement, reduction in their metabolic syndrome risks, and change in their lifestyle attitude. Their physical health information will be gathered through medical evaluation of the participants in the programs which includes basic weight monitoring, waist line measurements, and body fat content screening (Lewis, 2009). Through the said data, DMI index and metabolic syndrome risk will be computed and results will be charted to monitor effectiveness and progress result over the duration of the program implementation. Likewise, at the end of each week of the program, psychological interview will be conducted individually and through group session to evaluation the effects of the health intervention program to the participant’s personality, outlook, and psychological standing. In each of the interview session, questions reflecting the lifestyle changes that participants made in their respective lives will be asked while also noting the challenges and effects that they are experiencing over the duration of the program course.
In achieving such objectives, it is only practical to assume certain challenges and problems on the side of the program organizers will surely be met warranting complications towards the duration of the course. One of the expected issues will be probably on the side of time adjustment and scheduling of the participants in which working individuals and frequent travelers might cause several restrictions. As such case, prior to the start of the program course, participants will be asked for their convenient measures and the course will be developed around this workable space. Another social issues might also be gradual loss of the interest in the participants in which the initial involved population might probably show decreasing pattern over the duration of the course. For such issue, psychological motivation must be applied during the interview sessions of both personal and group occasions. Also, positive health materials will be provided to the participants through leaflets, brochures, posters, and even documentary programs to facilitate continuous interest and awareness to the positive health effects of their advocacy.
Concerning the issue of budget, funding for some of the operational expenses that are likely and necessarily be encountered can be sufficiently addressed through implementing several economical approaches on the course of the program. On the side of the expense, allotment for several factors can still be further stretched and maximized thus effectively reducing cost factor of this program. On the side of manpower, public health offices can be solicited for their participation thus providing significant assistance on the matters of health examination, physical evaluation, and psychological analysis in line also to their regular tasks and duties involved in their office. The rent expense side can also be adjusted through resorting to public areas such as parks as main venues for group activities rather than hiring an indoor location provided that local weather condition permit such option. In addition, soliciting aid in various economical means can still be made to further expand funding for this program such as negotiating with local industries and probably even resort to endorsement or advertisement to gain revenue to the cause. Indeed, through certain adjustment and fully utilizing possible options, the budget concern for this particular health intervention program can be effectively addressed possibly even allowing expansion of its reach to a greater and wider population.
In general, health intervention program such as this is important to the general welfare and social risk reduction concern effectively alleviating one of the greatest health threats to the particular population demographic targeted (Mohr, 1995) . Indeed through effective organizational measures, methodologies, and budget allocation that the significant objectives of this health intervention cause can be successfully achieve promoting necessary interest, awareness, and permanent lifestyle changes to the African American society in the urban areas.
