Diary Entry: Impact of Article on My Theory of Library Management, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 349

Essay

I define management as an organization group that works in an administrative role to meet the organization’s goals through encouraging the collaborative efforts of its members while protecting their rights within the organization. My preferred library organization is a corporate library that not only contains the records of corporate history but also the accumulated knowledge of all organization members to date. It also holds important data on the organizational leaders that have led the organization throughout its history.

There is a natural tendency for human beings to underestimate their own weaknesses and overestimate their strengths and it’s especially true for people in positions of power at the organizations. Due to their past successes, they develop a sense of invincibility and look at mistakes as inevitable events rather than avoidable errors. This is where effective leaders with long term track record are different because they do not hesitate to take personal responsibility for mistakes and take missteps as an opportunity to learn. They are more realistic about their own strengths and aware of their limitations that explains why they try to remain within their area of expertise. Moreover, managerial styles are difficult to change. It’s more effective to bring a leader whose leadership is suited to the organizational needs and culture than for a leader to change his/her leadership style.

Tough times lead to higher expectations from the leaders and as a result, leaders feel pressured to take more actions. Thus, their ineffective leadership styles harm the organization’s performance on even greater scale. There are managers who involve employees in decision making process for the sake of appearing democratic but do not understand the participative decision making process well. As a result decision making process becomes lengthy, unproductive, and waste of organization’s precious resources (White). Thus, the best leadership style should allow employee participation but be decisive at the same time. Discussion sessions should be limited to pre-determined time frames and the leader should have the courage to take the decision in a timely manner even if it’s not a popular course of action.
