Diet Change, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 338

Essay

I need to change my diet. I do not watch the foods I eat. My sleeping habits are not good either (I average four hours of sleep per night). I do little to take care of myself. Lately, I have noticed a slight weight gain. Most of the foods I eat are the ones I like. Most of them are high in carbohydrates. I love sweets and eat something sweet at almost every meal. I even sneak in sweets between meals. Foods that are high in fat are my other weakness.

I am going to try to curb my eating habits to align them with the things that I know to be good for me. I am going to cut out eating in between meals. I am going to give up sugar drinks. I am going to start each day by walking two miles before I do anything else. I am going to drink lots of water.

For breakfast, I am going to eat combinations of either oatmeal or granola. For lunch, I am going to drink a protein-enriched, fruit-laden smoothie or a turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread. For dinner, I will eat salads, baked chicken, and dark green vegetables. Basically, I am going to eat the things that my friends who have Type II Diabetes eat and avoid the things they avoid, like potatoes, rice, desserts, soft drinks, and anything high in fat and carbs.

If I have cravings during the day, I will eat a few nuts or a fat free yogurt. If I follow this plan for a whole month, I think I will realize a gain in energy and a loss in weight. If I add a couple of hours sleep to this, giving myself a six hour per night average, my body should begin to respond positively to the alteration.

I really need to do this. High blood pressure runs in my family, and I do not want to have to go on medication for it just because my life habits do not support good health.
