Research Paper

A question that could be formulated as a consequence of this study is “Can heart failure in middle aged overweight men with uncontrolled eating habits be managed by using medication in conjunction with a controlled diet impacted by diet, as measured by a 6 month long intervention?”

  • Population: Middle aged overweight men with uncontrolled eating habits that have experienced heart failure.
  • Intervention: Efficacy of medication in conjunction with a controlled diet (Dalen & Devries, 2014).
  • Comparison: The efficacy of medication in individuals that are not able to control their diet.
  • Outcome: Individuals who are asked to follow the intervention diet program are expected to experience less severe symptoms related to their heart failure.
  • Time: 6 months (Houser, 2015)

Using a convenience sample has the ability to bias the findings (Houser, 2015). Sometimes convenience samples are necessary due to the nature of certain studies, but a convenience sample does not allow the results to be considered externally valid (Leiner, 2014). Despite this, many researchers claim that results they generate using the convenience sample apply to other populations, when there is no evidence for such a claim.

One of the most common breaches of ethical and legal research occurs when researchers fabricate their results (Houser, 2015). Often, this can be done unknowingly because researchers may leave data outliers out of their overall analysis (Kaptein, 2014). However, this act is occasionally done knowingly so that researchers are able to support their hypotheses. This is damaging because this research often serves as a starting point for other studies and presenting false data detriments the work of other researchers until these findings are identified as false and properly refuted.
