Differences in Leaders, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 256

Essay

Leaders all have different styles when making decisions.  Such is the case throughout history, through the world’s tyrants and other figures seen. Authoritarian, democratic, and laissez-faire decision making types are all seen in leaders.

Authoritarian leaders normally rely upon themselves to make decisions.  Thus, others are rarely used, as the leader follows through with the power that is possessed.  This has been seen throughout history and exists in other contexts, such as business, where one in power makes the decisions without the help of others.

The second type is found in the democratic style of decision making.  In this type, others participate in the decision. Leaders use subjects under the leader to help in decisions and other relevant situations.

The third and final type is defined as a laissez-faire decision making style.  In this style the leader is not normally present for decisions. The leader in this case leaves subjects and other relevant leaders to make decisions, playing no major role or demonstrating much guidance in such a situation.

These types of leaderships are contrasted quite obviously. The most expressed power is found in authoritarian types, which is directly opposite of the laissez-faire style.  In the middle of this is the democratic style, which makes use of both the leader and other figures.

Overall these types of leaderships represent different gradients found throughout the world.  Whether it is in business or politics, or some other applicable context, these leadership styles are seen.  It is possible to mix these tendencies together to create something that is not purely in one of these styles.
