Disabilities, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 413

Essay

Could employees such as those described in the article fill a role at your current/most recent place of employment? -Could/should a role be created for employees with disabilities as was done in this article? -If the answer to the questions above is “no,” do we/can we really ever have Equal Employment Opportunity? If yes, how would you go about it?

As for my current employment, I do think there are some individuals who have some certain disadvantages compared to other individuals who are working in the institution. Although they may not be autistic per se, they have some qualities that make them less productive when presented with some situations while also gaining a lot higher productivity rate when situations are changed accordingly.

Basing from the article, the concept of equal employment opportunity as a practical law allowing disabled individuals to gain position in companies and earn for their own selves and sustain their living is not only based on simply giving the people the right job. It also constitutes that need of the management to see to it that their work areas are customized according to their needs. This should not be seen as a special treatment, but as a form of easing out the stress that might diminish the quality of performance that the employees put forth.

As we study EEO law, it is important to understand not only the law but the actual impact of those laws as much as the intent of the law. Do you believe that affirmative action and/or diversity programs actually work and achieve the objectives that they intend to? Why or why not?

Considering the current situation in the American industry of employment, it could be realized that the EEO principles are hardly being applied especially by small scale organizations. Nevertheless, for those who are serious enough to commit themselves to the ideal process of providing equal opportunity to disabled individuals as well as to the minorities of the society, they reap the fruits of their labor through gaining better acceptance from the public which further reestablishes their reputation in the community they are trying to engage with. With a more focused concern given towards the aspect of developing a good law that would protect the rights of the minorities, it is expected that more people would have a better gauge of their satisfaction over their own lives which will later on have a positive impact on the overall process of developing national competence among the members of the public.
