Giving feedback in a distance learning environment is completely different from face-to-face communication. In a real learning environment the communication process appears to be more efficient, thus giving you the opportunity to apply your verbal and non-verbal communication skills like gestures and body language. Therefore, in a distance learning environment, communicating through written media or teleconferencing, you might not be that persuasive and effective in delivering your idea or opinion. Basically, using written communication can eliminate some of the advantages used in social interaction. I would say that giving feedback in a distance learning environment makes the whole communication process really vulnerable in terms of misunderstanding and possible communication breakdown. Therefore, the person must follow the basic guidelines and rules of effective writing, thus being very careful expressing emotions and feelings, especially negative. Other than that, distance learning communication has proved to be really efficient and productive.
