Pages: 1

Words: 296

Essay

Every student has a right to education. And for learning to be effective, the school environment should be comfortable for students. Students from different backgrounds enroll in schools every day, increasing the school population; this calls for diversity in schools to create a welcoming environment for every student. Hence, learning will be sufficient. Nowadays, teachers are required to teach students from various backgrounds (Gollnick & Chinn, 2002). Through diversity, students from different backgrounds in terms of culture, race, gender, and national origin will integrate. Some of the several measures that should be put in place to enhance diversity in schools include.

Creating co-curricular activities such as school clubs, soccer teams, talent shows, etc., promotes diversity as these activities bring students together. Teachers should be culturally responsive by studying the history and experiences of different backgrounds, appreciating every student’s background, and enhancing equity in the classroom and the whole institution in general. Libraries should contain materials from various cultural origins and also books that preach diversity. School policies should also be set in such a way that they promote equity and respect between students. Create events that promote diversity, such as inviting guests from various cultural backgrounds to speak to students about their culture; this will help the students understand and appreciate different cultural backgrounds. Appreciating schools with a higher diversity will also encourage many other schools to practice the same virtue in their institutions. Sending students to schools in different regions from their home town is another form of enhancing diversity.

In Conclusion, diversity plays a vital role in the student’s success as it will create a conducive environment for learners to study appropriately and with comfort. Teachers also interact with students mostly, and they should be the ambassadors of diversity by enhancing equity and avoiding discriminatory behavior.
