Someone said that variety is the spice of life. In modern occupation science this refers, specifically, to how employers address differences in skills; ethnicity; race; culture and predispositions of clients applying for a job or employed in a workplace setting. Discrimination has become a twenty-first century labor market concept, which apparently is responsible for  escalating unemployment rates occurring in our society.

In reality there are no job shortages, but jobs have become nonexistent for certain types of people due to the color of their skin, the country/state of origin; gender, sexual orientation or  disability they are experiencing at that point in time. These issues among many others have forced policy makers to design laws protecting the vulnerable from being disenfranchised. However, still subtle injustices still occur in the workplace and rigorous measures ought to be taken to correct this malady in the society (Center of American Progress , 2014).

Ten specific strategies that can be implement for addressing diversity issues in my department form open discussion with staff begins with a culture of inclusivity. This means allowing all interviews to contain a mixture of culture on the panel; committee representing worker right must be impartial; there must be a combination of all ethnic groups represented; all employees must have equal opportunities for participating fully in activities organized for staff improvement; a diversity committee must be organized and installed in the organization.

A forum where employees could express their diversity concerns must be held regularity management to be aware of irregularities. Sixth measures must be taken to asses present skills functioning; seventh ways of creating the use of different skills in performing same task must be considered. Eight encouraging lower level management an input in planning strategies for organizational growth. Ninth  is removing rigid classifications  of job titles, which makes promotion difficult for certain category of staff an ten open top level management opportunities to lower level staff through appropriate  training in cultural competence and occupational diversity.
