Pages: 2

Words: 577

Essay

The current time we live in has brought about new opportunities, challenges, new ways of living, and changed how we engage with each other. There has been a lot on everyone’s mind, including mine, on various issues such as the social divide brought about by social media, issues on governance, various factors influencing it, economic disenfranchisement, and how the recent pandemic of COVID-19 has affected our lives. The new media atmosphere, for example, has caused significant disruptions; it continues to be dynamic in an unanticipated manner; the new media has changed various aspects of governance, ways in which members of the public communicate and engage with their leaders, and how elections are prepared and conducted.

Media platforms have accommodated interactions among people and how they collaborate to influence certain matters. In America, for instance, social media has changed how information is disseminated; we’ve seen journalists’ roles changing and the political media system being altered. Compared to the old ways of sharing information such as newspapers, anyone can share unproven and false information to individuals; it has created instability in all political communications. has created a divide among people, with individuals attacking one another on the social media platforms. Economic disenfranchisement has divided Americans, with some claiming that it has brought about many costs and how it lowers the country’s economic growth. For most Americans, having economic opportunities that include everyone is better off than the inclusion of the politically favored group.

Elections are around the corner and since voting is essential, and it matters; reasons such as voicing our needs as Americans on matters affecting our daily lives makes voting a critical event. An additional reason why voting is crucial is; seeking changes in various positions of governance. There is a need for change in governance; if there is an opportunity to implement the changes, individuals should grab it. Young people in society have the potential to influence change on various issues affecting the communities. It is up to the millennials to force change for a better world.

COVID-19 has caused adverse effects on our everyday lives; it has caused many fatalities; globally, it is one of the pandemics that has caused significant economic shock and intense crisis on public health. COVID-19 has brought about severe damage to many economies around the world, including America. Due to the pandemic, America has experienced the lowest GDP levels since the Great Depression; consumer spending is one of the sources of revenue in America; the pandemic has lowered consumer spending rates, which is because of pay cuts and layoffs.

During the pandemic, some small businesses have had to close down due to low cash flow; most Americans have received unemployment checks; millions of workers have lost their jobs due to the pandemic. It has caused financial constrains for many families with many households surviving on debts to cater for their family needs; the uncertain times has caused mental problems to most people, the fear of contracting the virus, the enormous numbers of daily infections and daily fatalities has instilled fear and stress among people. The situation has damaged many people’s mental health and stability; it has caused hopelessness among people; there is still uncertainty about when the pandemic will be over and when our lives will be back to normal. However, there is hope that our lives will be back to normal. The economy will grow, businesses will recover the losses, and job opportunities will come up, and our households’ financial stability will improve.
