DNP Nurse Voice and Perspective in Academic Setting, Essay Example

The numbers of the DNP-prepared nurse programs that have recently been developed in academic setting have been increasing thus leading to a shortage in traditional programs of masters degrees. Thus, the nurses who anticipate returning to academics to master in a nursing degree are met with a limitation of choices to the DNP-prepared nurse programs. This is an option that has a requirement of higher commitments in terms of time as well as cost thus discouraging most students to take the course. However, taking a DNP-prepared nurse programs is a good source of translational as well as clinical voice and perspective in an academic environment (Fulton & Lyon, 2005). Therefore, it is anticipated that new voice and perspective are expected from the DNP-prepared nurse in the academic setting where a number of PHD-prepared nurses are also present. The PHD-prepared nurses programs are more of research-focused doctorate and they are believed to have the potentials for contributing to available programs of scholarship in the academic settings. Unfortunately, they have been proven to lack the pertinent translational as well as clinical skills that are necessary in the implementation of research findings in to practice. DNP-prepared nurse therefore has an important role in voice and perspective in translating research findings in to evidence based practice, EBP (Slyer  & Levin, 2012). DNP-prepared nurse is in a superior position of interpreting the conventional best evidence in to practice which thus facilitate for the provision of enhancement in the clinical health care outcomes (Fulton & Lyon, 2005). The DNP-prepared nurse is therefore privileged to serve as a clinical voice as well as perspective which are attributed to knowledge and skills of integration and implementation of research findings.
