Comparison Between “Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” by Dylan Thomas and “All out of Love” by Air Supply

“Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night” by Dylan Thomas is inspired by emotions where the author tries to depict using figurative language the pain of death  and the kind of emotional distress that people undergo when they lose someone close to them. More importantly, the tone of the poem is sad, perhaps trying to give some emotions to the poem. Most of the words used in the poem are meant to elicit a particular reaction from the readers. For example, that of empathy or even perhaps the use of figurative language to make the readers get in touch with their inner instincts. In the poem, Dylan says “Do not go gentle into that good night, old age should burn and rave at close of day” (636). This statement forms the major theme of the poem, that of which shows that the author was significantly impacted by the demise of his father. However, he tries to give himself to hope that there was nothing much he would have done to change the situation.

All out of love, on the other hand, of Air Supply, is an emotional song that draws inspiration from love and romance. The lyrics of the song are geared towards exhibiting that love is universal and, therefore, cannot be predetermined as in most cases. People just find themselves in love. However, the artists of the song create an emotional attachment to the song that has a stroke of sadness and despair. This presumption is derived from the fact that the song speaks of two people who strive hard to overcome significant challenges and achieve real love. However whenever that is about to happen something always comes in to obstruct their happiness. Both the poem by Dylan Thomas and the song by Air Supply are significantly emotional. The poet and the songwriters use symbolism to give some life, both to the poem and the song that makes the audience relate more to the interpretation and the deeper meanings of the two.
