Domestic Dispute and Its Effects, Essay Example

Introduction

The words “domestic disputes” and “fight” have been used interchangeably in normal conversations till the magnitude of domestic dispute has been underrated. Most people have considered domestic disputes as a normal fight. The two have diverse differences though we can say that fight is in domestic disputes but the reverse is never true. Domestic dispute has contributed to most family break ups. It is due to the effects of domestic dispute on families that “social service” was formed. New or old, all are accompanied by patches, though to various degrees, “social service” program might have demerits and weaknesses. It is due to these factors that we decide to assess the effectiveness of our program. The paper primarily brings out, the procedure that we used to assess the program, the shortfall in the procedure and its success. The evaluation aided in the determination of the weaknesses and strength of “social service” program and this forms the last part of this paper. We believe that with the evaluation, the other programs and organizations that perform the same functions as “social service” can be aided in finding their SWOTS (strength, Weakness, opportunities and threats).

Literature review

Domestic dispute is an overwhelming communal problem that affects all families though in various degrees. While the reactions to domestic violence by most organizations mainly target adults but the effects on the children are also diverse. They are fundamentally focused on adult sufferers. The other side usually goes unsupported and unattended.  Studies have confirmed that approximate that 6 to 12 of affected families, kids are at danger compared to adults. Our program gives equal chances as the two parts are considered; both children and grownups. The results that are associated with the domestic dispute are numerous and cannot be numbered. Mostly affected groups are females. They are the members that are considered inferior in most of the families. Also most all the side effects associated with domestic violence are felt by them. Our program helps in such cases. Domestic dispute is hard to understand but can be understood when examine at it’s commence is established. The longer it stays without being solved, the worsen it becomes. After a given duration of time, the effects remain permanent on the victims. Taking for example, suppose it is associated and caused by frequent abuses, suppose it continues, new insults result and the effects become even worse.  It’s crucial to solve then at early stage and so the program’s aim.  Victims are traumatized; they show an extensive variety of effects. The perpetrator’s insulting character can finally result to a collection of problems in the relations and communication. In case the vice is fight, then physical injuries will automatically result. The effects of hostility arrays from slight effects to advance that at times require counseling and at times lead to break-up or even suicide. It is not true that domestic dispute only affects those insulted, but it extends to even the close related to the family or people affected.  It extends to observers, members of the family, colleges, and even society. Kids that observer family wars are victims and prompts them to many communal and bodily troubles. When they become constantly exposed they eventually develop the vices.

Program evaluation

The social service program was evaluated. The main aim was to remove the affected families or decrease the effects of domestic dispute among these families. We had felt that the program would reduce such incidences (they cannot be eliminated as their causes are numerous and also come due to various conditions).  In the “social service” program evaluation, two populations were selected (families selected and then grouped). Those who had never underwent the program and the families that were in the program. The second group was as a control. It helped to determine the effectiveness of the program. The group consisted of five families. Five others were chosen randomly and subjected to the program. In the course the improvements were monitored and the differences noted.  The noting was periodically as per the scope of the program “social service”. The periodical differences comparison was to determine the effectiveness of the program as this would aid in the future improvements and even change suppose it was not assisting the affected families.  Most of the affected families and individuals (sexes) affected by home disputes in the recent past were positioned and grouped in two categories. This was about forty families. The big range ensured that the effectiveness of the program can be easily determined as numerous cases examined and the results denoted. It also assisted in the denoting the defaults of the program and its success. Families were chosen randomly. Some were placed in program “social service’ and some in second group called control group. Assigning any person or family to a group was done randomly. It consisted of twelve families in the control and 28 in the program. The members who were in the program were allowed to be counseled and receive other services for five weeks. They were also allowed to consult in case they had matters that they could not handle or were not sure of. Data was collected on the behavior changes in the families that were in the program and also in the families that were in the control. The collection of data was through interview of the respective family members.  The two groups were compared and similarities and differences noted. Similarities in the vices helped to denote the are3a that should be improved and the differences, the success of the “social service” program. The problem with the evaluation was that different groups were designed to various families and it is evident that the same services might have not been received. They people concerned with the counseling and other services might have concentrated on the areas of their interest hence omitting the rest (area in which they were affected as well). The strength of our evaluation method was that all the families who were in the program were given maximum opportunities and specials attention provided. They were in one to one with the people responsible.  All the private questions that the families which were in the program had could be easily aired as the secrecy was promised compared when others (more so relatives and close associates) would have been present.

Results and analysis

After the duration, we evaluated the groups (those who were in the program and those who were in the control) and we were proud to affirm that “social service” was victorious. Out of 28 families who were in the program, 23 had improvements in their family relations though to various degrees.  Of 12 in the control, 3 families had improvements. When we evaluated the level of improvements, we noted that of the 28 females in the evaluation, the newly marries had better improvements. With such outcomes, we felt that and still feel the “social service” program works predominantly well newly married couples. It was in our assumption that the families that were in the control but had improvements were due to time. Time is another factor that determines the character. With time, they might have realized their mistakes and changed. We can as well assume that the change could be due to relation influence. They might have copied or obtained advices from their friends or relative. The other assumption is that the affected families might have broken up and new marriages that had few problems emerged reducing domestic disputes.

 Conclusion

According to the results obtained from evaluation, it is evident that our program is effective. All the programs cannot be 100% as they are affected by numerous factors of which they dependent. We can hence rate our program to be 70% effective. We will in future improve our services and all the victims will be subjected to similar counseling at the same time. This will ensure that the counselors only handle the areas that they are free with. In the end, the efficiency of “social service” will be enhanced. Domestic violence that affects our surroundings should be taken by as our own. This will reduce the effects that they have on their neighborhoods. It begins with one family and then spreads to limitless levels. It has been noted by the research that the most effective is by investigating the cause and preventing future occurrence at the starting point. At this point, it has not matured and hence the effects can be easily forgotten. It is our and collective responsibility to eradicate domestic violence and disputes by reducing them to manageable levels.
