Don’t Blame Girls for Their Own Sexualization, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 376

Essay

Nowadays, women are expected to be flawless due to the fact that advertisements have long advocated the fact that women are not acceptable in society if they are not perfect. This has placed a problem in society today because of the reason that women are judged on only their physical aspects. Media/advertisements has persuaded everything to believe that there is nothing wrong with objectifying women in every sense possible. The problem that this brings about is that men get the wrong idea about the manner in which they should treat women. What this means for society is that the media is slowly encouraging individuals to see women as nothing more than sex objects. Clearly, this brings about the problem that men often times commit rape and womens self-esteem is shot down.

In time, these same women come to accept the idea that their bodies should be used for nothing more than sex objects. Seeing as how this creates an element of women being nothing more than things, violence becomes the norm. In a way, it could be said that the media and its advertisements is promoting violence as the norm because of the manner in which many individuals start to believe that it is okay to degrade women in the same way that the programs in television seem to do so.

Individually, it is rather difficult to do something against the big corporations that are promoting all of the sexualization of individuals. However, if and when someone feels strongly about the notion that companies must stop sexualizing women, then that certain individual would start a petition or a boycott to stop using a certain product. This has proven effective in the past and it is without a doubt that it would be able to work in the future. Seeing as how the future is in our hands, it is up to us to ensure that future generations do not adopt the mentality that sexualizing women is anywhere near okay.
