Dream Interpretations, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 290

Essay

Interpreting others dreams carries a varied weight regarding the response you give. Dreams can be interpreted in many different ways and the art or science depending on the interpreters view point involves connecting the sub-conscience with activities and instances occurring in the dreamer reality. The theory of dreams that most closely represents my explanation would fall in line with that of Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic perspective. This insists that dreams are representations of unconscious desires, thoughts and inspirations. The dreams are made up of what is actually viewed in the dream regarded as manifest content and that of latent content which is the psychological meaning behind what is viewed in the dream.

My views mirror that of Freud’s because as we dream we pull from visions in our mind then through individual interpretation we attach thoughts and feelings to these images sometimes representing more than face value in the dreams. A picture of a dog could represent an entire childhood of joy or a pivotal turning point in life with negative ramifications.

On the other hand there are theories based upon the mind cleaning up the clutter of the mind and by doing so triggers images and dreams to occur based solely on the fact that random instances were accessed through realignment of thoughts and memory. Although this theory aligns well with its basis for a computer realigning the random access memory the mind is a much more complex entity than that of a computer.

Over all, the link between images experienced by the dreamer and their own interpretation and extrapolation of the meaning drives the interwoven experience of the dream. Knowing the individual would help interpret their dream thus allowing greater insight into the interconnectedness between the conscience and sub-conscience of the subject.
