Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), Essay Example

Essay

Introduction

An organization that I am highly interested in working with is the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). It has been classified as a federal financial free zone since 2004. The main goal of this company is to provide a stage for financial institutions and business to reach the emerging markets of the region. DIFC created an environment for growth, progress and economic development in the UAE and the wider region by providing the needed legal and business as well as physical infrastructure bench marked against international standards. The company have own court distinct and legal system for those of the wider UAE,  with commercial,  ivil, jurisdiction over corporate, employment, trust and securities law matters. This organization is a well-known banking services and even though the main headquarters for the organization is in Dubai, it has many locations around the world. I wish to work for this organization because it appears that they will be able to challenge my intellect in addition to being able to provide me with more knowledge and training that will help me grow as a person. Furthermore, the structure within this company would allow me to be promoted to higher positions as I grow, which is important because I believe that this ability will keep me motivated as a worker.

Specific information related to your major

This position would be particularly relevant to my major because it would allow me to develop my critical thinking skills with regards to my math and reading abilities. While I believe that these particular skills are already strong, I have not yet had the opportunity to utilize them in the business setting, and believe that these skills would develop significantly if I am given the opportunity to allow this to be the case. Furthermore, I am very knowledgeable about computers and technology, and since DFIC is an international company, the use of this technology is an important component of the job. Therefore, I believe any position, including an entry level one at DFIC would help challenge my current skill set and allow it to grow. Ultimately, one of my concerns about finding a job is that the positions I apply for will not allow me to use the particular skill set I’ve worked so hard to acquire in school, but I believe that the structure at DFIC will allow me to use at least some of these skills in the beginning while I am learning, and then a greater amount later on.

Employee Profile

While statistical data is not available to describe the demographic features of its employees, it can be assumed that on the world scale, most of the workers are from Dubai and Hong Kong because this is where the company’s major business centers are located. However, in the United States, one could expect the employee profile to be more diverse. It appears that the demographic breakdown of the organization is highly dependent on the diversity of the workers in the area in which the office has formed. It appears that the organization is looking for individuals who are willing to work hard and are motivated. I believe that this fits my description perfectly. Furthermore, it appears that the company wants workers who are able to grow with the organization so that they are able to hire talent within. I agree with this principle because I believe that it increases the quality of work that can be done. Furthermore, I would be interested in staying with this company long term, so I am happy to hear that I would be rewarded for this type of dedication.

Interview with an Employee

To set up my interview with the employee, I called the human resources department number that was associated with the job fair. I then scheduled a specific date and time to attend the fair so that I can meet with representatives of this organization. I believe that my interviewer was highly characteristic of the organization because she conducted herself very professionally. She was very well dressed and knowledgeable about a variety of positions at her company. She indicated that the day to day work at this company would be very busy and that each individual is expected to accomplish a lot in order to contribute to the overall success of the organization. However, she stated that employees are very knowledgeable and are willing and able to help new employees find their way during their first few months.

Summary

After meeting with the interviewer, I am still interested in working with this organization but have become slightly curious about the intensity involved in doing so. While I like working and believe that this would be a positive experience, I am unsure as to whether their demand for results will require me to work overtime, which would be difficult with my home responsibilities. I think that it would be valuable to have a conversation about the company with an employee who is able to be more objective before making this kind of decision. While the human resources representative did leave me with a good overall impression of the organization, I left with worries that I may not fit because I am new and have not yet learned all of the required skills. Furthermore, I did not wish to be a burden to anyone who may have to train me to improve. I think that I am still interested in this position, overall, but it is important for me to ask more questions first.
