EBP and KBP, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 347

Essay

EBP (evidence-based practice) and KBP (knowledge-based practice) are necessary to ensure best practices both within the context of nursing administration and leadership roles (Berke et al., 2011, pp. 329). As a leader, it is important to consider that regular best practices for quality improvement and best care require the use of evidence-based practice, just as it is important to consider that similar evidence-based practices can be used to lead a team effectively. It is also beneficial for nurse leaders to consider the value of integrating knowledge-based practice into their actions. Doing so will help their team develop the skills necessary to succeed in a fast-paced setting. Thus, a primary result of using evidence and knowledge based-practice is that nursing teams as a whole will benefit.

Effective nurse leaders are aware of how to incorporate a variety of evidence and knowledge based practice into their direction. As such, the best leaders in health care are often those that enact transformational leadership because their observations and knowledge can be used in a manner that will allow them to effectively help members of their team build their skills and reach professional achievement goals (Spring & Hitchcock, 2010, p. 40). Even though nurse leaders are considered to be masters of practice, it continues to be helpful for them to refer to the most recent literature to ensure that their knowledge of the field is up-to-date and relevant. Furthermore, good leaders attempt to share this information with their team in a manner that allows them to be constantly learning. The ability of an individual to constantly learn helps nursing leaders find new ways to contribute to the quality of their team, thereby contributing to improvements in patient care as well.
