Editing in Reprise, Essay Example

Words: 310

Essay

Some would describe the film as an example of how the young crave for ambition and meaning for which they were brought into this world. The movie starts with each of the core characters holding manuscripts that would change the rest of their lives. The film as such shows the importance when the film is about a feeling more than the plot itself. The director sought to entertain viewers by emotionally heightened moments in the movie rather than technical details that would have people follow the storyline. This is a western mode and makes it easy to follow for viewers.

The film itself can be classified as talking about one dimension of being twenty-three. The two men involved in the plot are intelligent, as well as driven and both of them want to be writers. There is little emphasis on the artistic aspect; therefore, the editing did not focus on scenes emphasizing talent and prowess. Rather there were more shots on anxiety of being at that specific age. Their relationships and social lives seem to take the back seat to their anxiety. The director does not give a resolution, instead preferring to show the uncertainty and anxiety of being at that age and having not yet accomplished what they wanted.

Trier uses the mood of the film and amplifies it by using the aspect of a narrator and fast-paced montages to depict how each of the characters came to feel as the both did. The narration and the visuals are quite energetic as it is of a fast-paced stage of their life. This combination of factors provides a set of uncertainty around the behavior of the men in this setting. The director, however, did a good job while editing because neither writer is overshadowed or under represented. The plot also does not seem self-absorbed according to the audience’s view in most cases.
