Education Is Important in Our Life, Essay Example

Education has different meanings within different cultures, but it always tends to have a close association with power. In some cultures, women that are educated are worth more to single men than if they were uneducated or illiterate.  In our history here in the United States, people of all races and genders have fought hard for equality in schools and making sure that every person has the same opportunities available to them, because knowledge is power. Education is absolutely important because of the financial benefits and social importance that we hold in today’s society.

The biggest reason for education is that we have come to honor those people in our society that have received more education or are knowledgeable about a specific topic. People with bachelor’s degrees earn considerably more money each year than regular high school graduates. The government is constantly spending billions of dollars each year on improving the quality of our education system and providing training for better teachers.  Our government attempts to compete with the quality of education from countries like China and Japan, where they currently provide better education that the United States.  The U.S. government also provides funding for financial aid to make sure that every person can receive an affordable education, and no person is excluded from receiving the best education possible.  The military has also become a strong option for many people because of the GI Bill and the thousands of dollars that the military can provide each person that gives service for educational reimbursement or helping to pay back student loans.  None of these financial resources would be available if the government and military did not show that it values education.

Another reason for education is that it has become a requirement within our society and culture.  The pattern of life is that we graduate from high school and immediately go to college. Anyone that goes straight to the workforce is looked at with a strange face by our society because it is not what is normal in society.  Without having a high school degree at minimum, it makes it very difficult to succeed in any facet of our society.  Besides being unable to find a real job and earn a respectable income, even finding a man or woman to marry can be difficult without the proper education because of how often people stick their noses up at the uneducated.  Libraries and local community colleges provide additional education training programs for people looking to earn their GED or high school diplomas.  Still, dropout rates in the United States are around 25% of high school students and this is a problem that must be addressed to help improve the quality of life that these young people can hope to attain.

The examples given have shown that education is important for people to receive financial benefits as well as being accepted within our society.  We currently strive to compete with international countries for the best quality of education, but we tend to fall short.  Our government and military provide financial benefits to students, high schools and colleges for education.  It should always be the goal of every person to receive the power of knowledge and improve their education at all times.  Even college graduates and doctors need to continue to learn in order to stay up to speed on technology and educational advancements within their industries. Education hold a very strong importance in our society and by receiving a higher quality of education we can attempt to receive a higher quality of life.
