Essay

In the course of history people have always valued knowledge as the most precious treasure in the world – wide men, philosophers, the savers of knowledge were the most honored people who taught only the chosen. For this reason knowledge has been nurtured, preserved and multiplied by the joint effort of the humanity to serve people in the upcoming years. It is known that in the medieval ages people traveled hundreds of kilometers to try to get to one of the lecturers of famous scientists, which was considered a rare and difficult thing.

For this reason knowledge is still remaining one of the indispensible characteristics of all intelligent people; ignorant people are ostracized and not respected; they fail to receive a prestigious job. The measure of complicity and specialization of the knowledge they have acquired shapes the profile of their future work and influences their overall future welfare. People may have some preferences concerning the type of work they are apt to do; however, they will never be able to achieve professionalism in case they do not have a theoretical basis for their skills.

As for me, I study for the same reasons as the majority of people – I want to take my place in life and to do what I want for a living. I know that professional education, especially that in the sphere of medicine, is highly valuable in the contemporary period of high costs for tuition and limited access to educational resources. So I appreciate the fact that I managed to enroll to the university and now I can study and get all skills necessary for my future work. In modern situation of the global war on terror, the profession I strive to get — that of military medic — is highly claimed, as multiple military operations are being carried out, the most large-scale of them in Iraq and Afghanistan, where thousands of soldiers require qualified medical and psychological help.

Besides, knowledge is necessary for me not only with the purpose of getting a good job – I want to become an intelligent and multifaceted person who is knowledgeable in literature, basic sciences, arts etc. It is always pleasant to join a sophisticated discussion, and not only to show how clever you are, but to receive pleasure from a dispute and find out something new. Moreover, being educated as a military medic helps me to shape my character and to acquire and reinforce such vital characteristics as responsibility, self-control, time-management, courage, resourcefulness, inquisitiveness and love for life.

Hence, I would like to assume that unfortunately not all students realize the luck they have to be studying at higher education establishments, perceiving their studies as something compulsory, thus unwanted and unpleasant. However, I feel that this is the last chance to get multidimensional knowledge and to get certified in it –pursuing some professional career it will be hard to find time for upgrading my knowledge. For this reason I enjoy what I have right now and try to take the most of it.
