Effect of Educational Opportunities on Juvenile Delinquency, Essay Example

Juvenile delinquency is a broad term that refers to criminal activities committed by children or rather juveniles. Legal systems world wide prescribe various method of handling Juveniles who commit crimes. Such methods are normally meant to correct the children’s behavior and make them fit into the rest of the society. Among these methods, education can also play a great role in the influencing of crime among the juveniles.

Education helps in reducing the rate of crime. Education can help in rising children in the right way. Education equips youngsters with knowledge and ability to decide and make informed choices, for instance, youths in schools children are taught about their health, drug abuse and the effects of drug abuse, effects gangs, effects of sexual activities and weapons (Welch &Siegel, 2008).

Exposure of children to vigorous programs gives them a broad understanding of various crimes and effect engaging in crime. In school the juveniles engage in sports and game and other extracurricular activities such acting in plays and sing in singing completion. Such activities keep the young minds occupied and therefore will have little time to get involved in deviant activities.

Schools generally provide children with proper growing environment in which the children grow up to become law abiding citizens. Schools facilities such as books have knowledge about various issues which they impart to children who read them. The school books are normally tailored to uphold the societal norms and values. Children using these books get exposed to what society expects out of them. The provisions of facilities such as buildings and libraries and computers help to improve the children’s urge to learn

Schools should be developed further in order to help in rehabilitation process to help children who engage in criminal activities.  Education can help reduce crime by creating self reliant and law abiding citizens.
