Effective Managerial Values Practices, Essay Example

Managers have different methods of helping employees achieve success.  Some practices are profit-driven, while others are focused more on social aspects.  The best management practices in today’s society encourage maximum production, while providing employees with a safe and comfortable environment.

Good management practices offer coaching strategies and embrace a more affiliative nature.  Management styles that are completely directive and authoritative are outdated and often seen as tyrannical.  Managers should first lead by example.  If they do not follow the rules, then how can employees be expected to do so?  This practice requires that all levels of management be properly trained.  Managers should also respect their employees as individuals.  When people know that they are respected by their company, they are more likely to help the company to succeed.  Feedback should be constructive and geared toward helping employees.  If employees are making mistakes, then they should be corrected and shown the proper procedures.  If employees are excelling, then praise and recognition should be administered freely.  Recognition can be a better motivator than money and cash rewards.  Some companies will offer monetary incentives, but depending on the size of the company, this practice can be costly. If monetary incentives are offered to upper-level employees, then lower level employees should be provided with the same opportunities.  Employees may be better served if resources are allocated to providing good equipment, a comfortable environment, and even flexible schedules as opposed to a gift certificate to a restaurant.

Good management practices amount to basic common sense.  When employees are happy and feel that their company cares for them, they are more likely to work harder and have increased production.
