Essay

Behavior is an integral in the learning process in any institution. Therefore, it is beneficial for me as a teacher to employ behavioral management strategies to enhance choice of behavior, which are productive, socially acceptable, and orderly. In a classroom setting, it is always desirable to promote responsible behavior rather than respond to misbehavior. That is why I will discuss behavioral management strategies, effective teaching and student assessment and motivation.

It is essential to establish clear rules and procedure with instructions on ways of following them. This creates a benchmark for high behavior standards expected. These rules should be enforced speedily, consistency and equally to all students right from the start. Any deviations should carry clear consequences case by case.

Having an upstanding classroom arrangement helps the teacher to monitor students’ behavior, create opportunities for them, and assist those who are weak. It is necessary to understand each student his environment and create his positive behavior support. This will instill in each student a sense of self-discipline. I would encourage students to learn in groups and incorporate interactive teaching and humor to make learning engaging and reduce tension. With the introduction of all these smoothly, teaching will take place effectively.

Effective teaching is students centered and involves passion, ability, dedication, and skills of the teacher when applying research findings to classroom teaching. The teacher should relate well, make a proper judgment, be acknowledgeable of the subject matter, and understand the learning process and techniques in order to deliver. The teacher can however, assess his students regularly to ensure they are learning.

I can assess my students through a number of ways, which include grades assigned from tests and questions. Brainstorming can also help assess students’ grip on the material. Observation and peer assessment are part of assessment techniques. It is vital to motivate students assessed to be weak, or demotivated.

By frequently, and speedily giving positive feedback to students, I will instill a sense of self-motivation to them. I will do this by helping the student develop a meaning and value to the subject matter, which should be real and relevant to students’ lives and existing needs. I will possibly create an environment, which is open and interactive, and thus actively involve the students. This makes them feel part of the learning process. High but realistic expectations through medium level tasks create opportunities to students also motivates students. With effective teaching and active students, learning process becomes fruitful.
