Essay

When it comes to responding to the fast paced system of living in a modern world, it has become evidently important to stay connected with people and institutions that one is specifically involved with no matter what the distance is. The production of gadgets created to make a distinctive impact on how people establish their connection with each other specifically create a massive definition of what the modern society is all about. The question is, does such development on gadget innovation and increased concern for user mobility create a distinct indication on modern media’s success to provide progress for the society?

Notably, before all these developments and innovations have been made, there was the beginning of the introduction of signal-based connection established in several areas of particular communities aimed at providing clear military connections. At the onset of the 1950s, when warfare gradually stops, the utilization of these signal stations served another purpose, and that is to establish a wide electromagnetic spectrum that would host different signals going back and forth from stations towards residences to allow the airing of information for radios and later on for televisions (Goldsmith, 22).

The birth of the Federal Communications Commission or FCC was a directive path that the US government took to protect the stations from being used against the government (Tse, et al, 133). The policies then for airing particular information, news and even music were quite strictly controlled. As years progress though, such strictness in allowing information to pass through different networks have been adjusted to considerably respond to the right of the public to know what is happening around them and be updated on what their society is currently undergoing. Through effective spectrum management, the public is now able to access different network stations and be informed in whatever patterns they may want or may be convenient with. The revolution of wireless airing of information through the radio stations then started to spur out especially in the aim of becoming highly effective in even developing other forms of media such as television, and now, the internet.

There are currently 14,500 radio stations airing all over the globe [both internationally and domestically] (Dominick, 69). With this number kept in mind, it could be realized how efficient radio spectrum management has become to make it possible for a massive number of stations to operate accordingly within the system. FM and AM radio waves are specifically directed in relation to how many users are likely appreciating their airing. From this point of innovation, audio waves being passed on through signal spectrums do not suffice the public’s need anymore. The adjustments and space allocated for video transfers for airing have been made possible which gave birth to television revolution. From then on, the exploration of the other possibilities of improving the options of signal utilization and developing communication systems have been researched upon.

As a result to the said explorations, the introduction of Fiber Optic Technology has been given birth. The height of demand for telephone connections and television cables being connected among residential areas have created a distinct path for innovators to follow through as they tend to respond to what the public require. Verizon and AT&T were among the first, and now among the largest organizations in the telecommunication industry (Dominick, 70) that provide services to the public allowing the people to watch televisions with several choices that fit their demands and communicate with their loved ones, friends and even their bosses through the use of fast-connection hosted by the telephone line providers that they choose to be served with. While the two systems, telephone and cable operations, are noted to have different patterns of operational characteristics, the emergence of fiber optic technology allowed for the creation of connection between the two operations making spectrum management easier to handle (Dominick, 70).

Years pass, and the development of human demand advances as well. Back in the days, it was enough to have a telephone set that connects one to others beyond the challenge of distance. International calls and connections have been made possible through the emergence of telephone lines. However, the demand for extensive connection and the more convenient options of communication has specifically gained the attention of the public. The desire to gain more from the existing communication systems has become evident. AS a result to this, the development of wireless services intended to respond to such demands.

The internet, one of the newest innovations in the communication industry has created a great impact on how modern communication is characterized at present. Characterized by accuracy and convenience, communication hosted through the internet does not only allow people to talk to each other from different areas of the world. Such option also allowed them to see each other through video calls. This option of communication does require a higher rate of transmission. Relatively, allowing such rate of transmission required the need for better management of signal spectrum. With proper management on the spectrum, it has been made possible for millions of users around the globe to be connected whenever they want to.

As a result to this revolution, the creation of gadgets that are able to provide the best option of communication to users has been given way. Now, hand-held phones and tablets are among the trendiest gadgets that are sold in the market. They are not only noted as somewhat fashionable nor luxurious. Because of the emergence of new technology partnered with the heightened need to communicate and remain updated through the internet, it could be identified that these gadgets have already been considered necessary. Because of this point of necessity, it is considered evidently agreeable to understand that such development has become specifically important in defining what modernity is about.

Bringing in the condition of better connection through communication devices that are easy to handle and are specifically noted for their mobility is evidently a part of the distinction of the modern civilization compared to other civilizations that existed around the globe for several centuries now. While the earlier parts of the 20th century was characterized by the introduction of television and radio utilization (Rappaport, 33) and the early 21st century noted for its revolution on communication development through the internet (Molisch, 144), the end of this particular century faces the condition of being characterized by the existence of specifically mobile gadgets that allow people to be connected to each other amidst the distances that exist amongst themselves. The creation of a new society that crosses the borders of national territories has been made possible through these innovations that some social experts impose that such development in the society does provide a distinctive hope in creating possible paths that could impose global peace (Pahlavan, et al, 34).

Overall, it could be learned from this discussion that the emergence of modern technology that aids the consideration over better communication among human individuals separated by distance has started in humble beginnings of desiring the consideration over the need to pass on information from one point to another or to at least a mass of receivers in the community. The emergence of electronic media and the production of gadgets that provide a possibility for the public to realize the benefits of modern technology as it aides them to experience communication beyond compare. In the future, developments on the creation of more effective gadgets that would provide better options of connection to users is expected to happen. Increasing options of mobility is also expected to be the primary source of inspiration for such innovations thus making it easier for users to bring their electronic media devices along with them and complete tasks relating to extensive communication whether or not they are on the go (Rhoton, 32). These developments are however questioned for being beneficial to human progress while also being the reason for division among individuals who are supposed to be connected even without the existence of gadgets supporting electronic media. Relatively, it is still the behavior of each human individual that would identify such worth of modern innovation in the lives of the modern society.
