Emotional Stability, Essay Example

Pages: 2

Words: 661

Essay

Emotional stability is a useful personality method as one of the big five personality methods that are utilized to explain emotional behaviors and trends within an organization.  To successfully explain this concept, it is important for our organization and team members to be compared to one another for their similarities and differences in emotional values and behaviors.  I personally work for a nursing home that provides health care and social services to elderly individuals within a restricted and well-organized work environment.

First of all, my organization is very well-organized but provides a certain amount of leniency for the rules in order to provide an emotionally-sensitive environment.  The management team believes that in order for our employees to perform successfully, there needs to be structure as well as freedom to perform the duties as assigned.  Our manager does not watch over our team throughout every function and trusts that our team will perform well.  Therefore, many of my business and organization behaviors derive specifically from this type of environment.  I believe in having freedom and fluctuation in the work in order to promote a strong working environment.  We also maintain an open door policy where employees are free to speak their minds over organizational trends and topics that can improve work efficiency.

In our group, Linda is mainly the leader of the PLT.  She works as a commercial real estate broker and based on her success she has been able to gain a number of strong attributes to continue her success.  She is very goal oriented and her main objective is to get the deal done with whatever tools it takes to complete the job.  Her work environment has very high turnover, but it also retains an open door policy for customers and employees to create a friendly, relaxed environment.  Nevertheless, the real estate industry is a sales environments, so the very bottom line for Linda’s success is money and to maintain a proven track record.

While Linda and I have traits that are very similar, Zuzanna works in an organization with production.  She is very focused on her work and is business-savvy.  She does not take time for relaxation because the emotional stability in the organization maintains this type of environment.  This does not mean that her success is not as valued as ours or that her attributes are not beneficial.  Instead, it is important to utilize her differences so that our entire group is working to achieve the best possible results.  In tedious and detail-oriented work, Zuzanna is probably the best individual for these types of tasks.

Finally, Alessandro and Jennifer both come from a customer service or customer driven work environment.  The majority of the work is focused on providing the best services to the customer and to deal with their needs.  While Linda is also interested in the needs of her customers, the main focus is on making the sale at almost whatever cost.  Therefore, the emotional environments are less concentrated on the company as opposed to the individual customers.  Jennifer works in an environment where this is crucial, but the employees engage in a lot of gossip which can often be detrimental to the emotional stability of the work environment and cause rifts between employees.

Despite all of the differences in background and personalities, our professional learning team works very well together. We do what we can to ensure that our differences are used appropriately to assign specific tasks to individuals that would be best suited by their emotions and work experiences to be success.  Even though we have different viewpoints, we always maintain a focus on the task at hand and make compromises as necessary to ensure that the work is finished as best as possible and in a timely manner.  Our PLT shows that people from different environments and backgrounds can work together to achieve a common goal and that emotional stability within an organization is key to the success of the organization and to create a conducive environment for success.
