Employer and Employee at the Interview, Research Paper Example

Pages: 1

Words: 322

Research Paper

My new employer did things right during the interview. An interview is particularly critical to both the employer and the employee. An employer should distinguish what they can ask and what they should not ask during an interview (Fearon 52). The employer understood the purpose of the interview and asked questions that were relevant to the job. The employer knew the right questions to ask and did not ask illegal questions. The employer also made a clear presentation of the realistic job preview. The job preview gave me a clear expectation of the job and assisted the employer in determining my understanding of the job. The result of such a well conducted interview is that the employee is made aware of the expectations of the job. The interview is also essential to the employer as it assures them that the prospective employee understands what they are required to do.

Although the interview was conducted in the right way, the orientation and training part was badly conducted. New hire orientation is essential as it assists new employees to familiarize with the employers’ organization. A proper orientation should include both job orientation and organizational orientation (Raymond 123). My new employer did not provide any orientation but only introduced me to the job. Training was neither provided, and the employer did not provide any mentoring or coaching. Training is meant to familiarize the new employee with the organization’s culture and is meant to improve employee effectiveness as they are made to understand both the goals of the organization and that of their job (Lawson 18). Due of lack of orientation and training it took me a lot of time to understand the organizations goals, as well as that of the job.
