Words: 293

Essay

From the very tender age, I had aspirations I wanted to be an engineer in developing bio-based products using the modern technological methods. The engineering I am pursuing currently is a postdoctoral fellow at bio-based product and technology development. I achieved this dream while I was in my current institute that I worked with the institute for one and half years. The institute gave me the opportunity to learn more and I became more curious to learn more about my career. I have worked on different projects in my field that have made me gain a number of experiences. With my enthusiastic nature to further my career, the institute has awarded me another one year contract that will see me gain more experience. My main interests towards developing my career is working on bio-based product development research in academia where I have the passion of teaching undergraduate level. This will give the opportunity to develop my career a higher level. I believe in assisting young people to attain the career goals, especially in the field of engineering. Furthermore, I intend to own my project next year in which I will get feedback and assessment from my mentor. I will be more involved in grant proposal writing, where I will focus primarily on research. However, as long I want to further my career, I need some grants and some lab equipments, which will improve my professional skills and networking. I believe that success, as an engineer in this day and age, needs technical competence and a blend of  the following competencies: communication skills; leadership and management skills; research skill development; response conduct of research; discipline-specific research; and professionalism. These competencies are vital towards achieving my goals in the field of bio-based product development research.
