Environmental Adaptation, Essay Example

Pages: 1

Words: 263

Essay

It was once believed that migration due to poor adaptation lead to several psychological and social problems in individuals and in groups. I disagree that the health conditions determine environmental adaptation and health conditions influenced by the climatic changes are considered as the factors in determining the environmental adaptations. The changes in the climate and the indirect exposure to the changes in the air, water and food as in case of the extreme and intense natural calamities, makes it vulnerable to maintain the good health conditions and reduces the capacity of the people to adapt to the changes. According to Joralemon, there are many evidences across many societies which experience sickness due to inter-relationship of cultural, socioeconomic and biological factors and not limited to disease and fertility rates (Joralemon, 1999).

One such example which can be accounted in this instance is in case of HIV epidemic where one of the major social factors like masculine and feminine characteristics in terms of multiple partnerships is responsible for outbreak of the disease. Other cultural factors correlated to the situation include unstable family environment and unsupportive living who fail to advice youngsters.

Another example which can be exemplified to relate social and cultural characteristics to outbreak of epidemic is bearing many children. As a result of increased population due to the cultural misconception of some religions, families fail to provide the minimum necessities of children which result in malnutrition and epidemic suffering. The society will not be able to put control as it fails to understand the misconception.
