Essay

University of Minnesota Crookston campus has the most interesting slogan which states that they it is a ‘small campus. Big degree’. It has several facilities including the Sahlstrom Conference Centre (2009) which is a meeting point for most of groups in campus. The conference centre has several units that include Morsels and UMC dining room which are the main units in the building. The conference centre also has four other rooms which include the four meeting rooms, a lab for the restaurant, the training kitchen, offices for the faculty and the Epicurean room.

The Epicurean is a hall room number 107 in the conference centre which is used by the Hotel and Restaurant Management students. The room is named after a famous ancient Greek philosopher named Epicurus of Samos (2010). Epicurus had  a  philosophy  that  stated  that  the  pleasure is  the  highest  goal.  The philosophy made his name to be known and symbolise great cuisine, fine living, vintage wines and travel. (Epicurus Group Company)

The Epicurus Company was created in 1978 when a man named Robert Angelone who changed his corporation’s former name to Epicurus after realizing that the philosophy by Epicurus had something in common with his company’s vision.

Epicurus grew from being a consultancy firm in London where Angelone got to meet with some of the best hotels and restaurant management in 1980. Four years later the company started focussing on foodservice, hotels and restaurants. The company grew from being contracted in banks, restaurants and cyber cafe. In the cybercafé the website was formed and this brought more light to the company because it got a larger audience and it started getting more attention from the press and famous people in the food industry. It kept developing and was recently rated as the one of the top ten professional food sites. It now runs a corporate website and has become a group company. Hence the Epicurean room in the University of Minnesota Crookston campus.
